Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are entitled to the same legal rights as the non-First Nations Australians and to equality before the law at all stages of the legal process.
There are also dedicated legal services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service (ATSILS)
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service (ATSILS) is a community based free and low-cost legal service which is culturally competent in their work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Legal Service (QIFVLS)
Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Legal Service (QIFVLS) is also available to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are victims of domestic violence, family violence and/or sexual assault.
